2020 Renegade

Red Wine

A lovely deep dark cherry red colour and showing some maturity after 18 months in French Oak.

Nice oak spice up front aromatically, with subtle vanilla, and coconut. Chocolate mousse and dark chocolate orange, stewed cherries or black forest cake, finishing with a hint of root beer or cola. The wine opens with a big rich mouthfeel, starting with chocolate and cherries, before showing some orange liquor, and red licorice then evolves into black licorice and the wine finishes with a lovely sweetness. Tannins are present but nicely softened. Screaming for BBQ ribeye.

“92 points – A full-bodied wine with dark cherry aromas. There are rich flavours of black currant, plum and chocolate, with a lingering finish.” – John Schreiner on Wine

“SILVER MEDAL 91 points – Renegade is an Oliver blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and petit verdot in the Bordeaux arena, aged in French casks for 18 months. Smooth and silky but what stands out immediately is the finesses and no massive gut-wrenching punch of wood. No, instead there is a wealth of fruit and the kind of salt and pepper seasoning one hopes will shape and lift an Okanagan red. Yes, the wood is always present but stylistically the attack is subtly spiced, genuine and proper. Fine work here as a very good red conglomerate of vintage and place. Just about ready to go too. Drink 2023-2027. Tasted March 2023” – Michael Godel, Principal Critic & Judge, WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada
